Four of Reiman Gardens' 2023 summer interns gave presentations at Nature at Noon on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Logan Finch, Lily Scott, Kati Carlson, and Kasey Alexander opined on their experiences during their 14-week internship at the Gardens.
According to Education Director Sara Merritt, the mission of the internship program at Reiman Gardens is to promote professional and intellectual skills and to become leaders in their field of study.
"We're really proud of our interns and we like to show them off," stated Merritt.
Logan Finch, an outdoor horticulture intern, presented the highlights of his capstone, which included plant identification, delivering healthy food through the Plant A Row program, committing to a horticulture emphasis, and making an overall positive impact on Reiman Gardens.
"I love public gardens," stated Finch. This has been an amazing experience.
Lily Scott, an ISU student from Fort Madison, Iowa, shared her capstone project on mapping and AutoCad.
Kati Carlson, from Ankeny, Iowa, shared her experiences as an event coordinator, learning how to craft professional emails and help lead events.
Kasey Alexander, an irrigation intern from Elizabeth, Colorado, discussed the importance of budgeting and planning, and the complexities of running a public garden.
Reiman Gardens will be hiring 12 new interns over the next 12 months.
